Frequently Asked Questions
Planning Your Trip
The best time to visit Bhutan is during the spring (March to May) and fall (September to November) months. During these times, the weather is mild and pleasant, perfect for sightseeing and outdoor activities.
Spring offers beautiful blooming flowers and lush greenery, while fall brings clear skies, crisp air, and stunning Himalayan views. These seasons also coincide with Bhutan's major festivals, offering a chance to experience the country’s rich culture and traditions.
Winter (December to February) can be cold, especially in the mountains, but it offers breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains and is great for solitude. Summer (June to August) sees heavy rainfall, which can affect travel plans, but it is a great time for fewer crowds and lush green landscapes.

Do I need a visa to visit Bhutan?
If you're not from India, Bangladesh or the Maldives, you willl need a visa to visit Bhutan. We can easily arrange this for you. The visa costs US$40, and there is also a Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) of US$100 per adult per night (US$50 for children aged 6 to below 12 years old, and waived for children aged 5 and below).

What is the tipping culture in Bhutan?
Tipping in Bhutan is not mandatory, but it is appreciated as a gesture of gratitude for good service. If you wish to tip, here are some general guidelines:
Guides and Drivers: It is customary to tip your guide and driver at the end of the trip. Our recommendation is USD 10 to 15 per person, per day.
Hotel Staff: Tipping hotel staff, such as porters or housekeeping, is appreciated. A tip of BTN 50 to 100 per service is considered reasonable.
Ultimately, tipping is a personal choice and should reflect the level of service you received. Let your gratitude guide you!
Health and Safety

Is Bhutan safe for solo travellers and families?
Be sure to bring any prescription medications you require. You may also wish to bring over-the-counter remedies for common ailments such as headaches, colds or stomach issues.
Bhutan’s roads can be quite winding, which may cause motion sickness for some travellers. If you are prone to motion sickness, we recommend bringing appropriate medication as a precaution to ensure a comfortable journey.
While most itineraries are designed to allow gradual acclimatisation, some travellers may experience mild altitude sickness. To minimise discomfort, we recommend staying well-hydrated and taking it easy. If you feel unwell, inform your guide immediately for assistance. Additionally, it is a good idea to consult your doctor before your trip for professional advice tailored to your health needs.
